Sakashita Bay is a quiet beach and a secret station in Suhua Highway. You don’t have to be crowded to see the mountains and the sea. You can go canoeing and also can drive on roads parallel to railroad tracks and enjoy the feeling as if you are chasing a train. Sakashita Bay is a secret beach in Hualien where you can see the sea. Sakashita Bay is the closest beach to Qingshui Cliff. From Hualien to Suhua Highway at 178.3K, turn right down the slope at the intersection as shown below. It is a place for canoeing or Stand Up Paddle board. According to legend, when Portuguese sailors were on the voyage to Japan in 1542, they saw this magnificent and steep Qingshui cliffs and the lush forest on the island. They couldn’t help exclaiming "Ilha Formosa". It means the beautiful island. Since then this island has been marked as FORMOSA in the Western world.
