Ten Scenic Views of Qingshui Cliff in TaiwanQingshui Cliff is a 22.7 kilometers long natural landscape which located on the section between Heping and Qingshui in Xiulin Township, Hualien County. Qingshui Cliff is mainly composed of marble, gneiss and green schist. It is the most magnificent landscape on the Su-Hua Highway. Qingshui Cliff is known as the spirit of the Su-Hua Highway and has become one of the eight wonders of Taiwan. In addition to being the most spectacular scenery along the east coast of Huadong, Qingshui Cliff is also a great place to enjoy the sunrise. Travelers appreciate the beauty of Qingshui Cliff in a closer approach while canoeing and stand up paddling in the blue Pacific Ocean.

The cliff falls directly into the sea, and the height difference is over 800 meters. This impressive cliff was caused by the Philippine tectonic plate pushing the Eurasian tectonic plate upward. While rain and wind eroded the softer surface material, the hard granite and marble below were exposed.

Qingshui Cliff is a sea cliff formed by fault structures about 250 million years ago. The remains of corals, snails and algae on the seafloor were gradually accumulated into limestone. Then through the deep burial of the upper layer of rock, it is metamorphosed into marble rock. When the Eurasian plate and the Philippine plate began to collide about 9 million years ago, the sea cliffs gradually uplifted. The rising, coupled with the erosion and weathering of rain, formed the magnificent marble cliff wall that is nowadays.
