Shimen Recreation Area view 1

Shihmen Recreation Area, located in Fengbin Township, Hualien, north of Shistiping, at the foothills of Daqi mountain and Fakon Mountain, is named after a coastal cave shaped like a door. After entering the first tunnel of Shimen, between Shihmen Cave and the monument of “Jen Ding Sheng Tian,” you can see the high cliffs and gently drifting water, which is a little similar to the scenery of Taroko. The abrasion platform, sea cave, sea groove, and similar formations here are of rich diversity in the region, which is currently planned as Shimen Nature Reserve, and could be recognized as a replica of the Baxian Cave. To the north of Shitiping, at the foothills of Daqi mountain and Fakon Mountain, there is a vast natural sea cave on the beach called Shihmen Cave. The rock is dark in color and does not crumble over time, and under the erosion of the sea, it has a steep, straight, and dramatic cliff look. Entries of the cave, and the angle at which the sunlight shines into the cave allows the local inhabitants to tell the precise time during the day. Legend has it that in ancient times, a group of Amis secretly gathered at Shihmen to attack another tribe located at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, and they prepared sticky rice cakes to celebrate their victory. Later the rice cakes turned into rocks along the waterfront. In addition to the unique geological landscapes, the shoreline of Shihmen Cave is also a fishing site where locals regularly come for fish and collect seaweed.
