Baoan TempleThe main deity at the Ba’an Temple is the Jade Emperor. The fisherman invited the sculpture of the deity from the Tiangong Temple called “Qingyun Temple”in Caoling of Toucheng Township, Yilan County. At the beginning, the temple had a thatched roof and an earthen altar. In 1952, the priest (Shinshi) called Yui, Yi-chung and the acolyte Chen, A-shu mobilized the local follower’s of god to rebuild the temple, which was completed at the end of 1953. Later, as the spiritual authority of Jade Emperor became more prominent and the increasing number of visitors, the temple was expanded to the present scale.Baoan TempleBesides the main deity Jade Emperor, Ba’an Temple is also the altar of Dimu Niangniang, Lord Tai Yi, Lord of the Northern Dipper, Lord of the Southern Dipper, the Three Lord Emperors of the Three Realms, Emperor Shennong, the Holly Emperor Guan, etc.Baoan TempleEvery lunar year on the ninth day of the Lunar New Year, also known as “Tian Gong Sheng,”which is the birthday of the Jade Emperor, visitors nationwide and worldwide flock to the temple since the evening of the eighth. It’s the busiest day of the year at the Ba’an Temple. Meanwhile, the 13th day of the 5th month on lunar calendar is the birthday of Chenghuang Ye (City God). On this day, Ba’an Temple always hold a grand fair and parade for the worship of Xia Hai Chenghuang (City God Temple).
