A monument is here for marking the Tropic of Cancer passing through Chiayi County and Hualien County in Taiwan. There are three markers in Taiwan, and they are in Shuishang Township in Chiayi County, Ruisui Township in Hualien County, and Fengbin Township in Hualien County, respectively.
The white, octopus-shaped marker in Wuhe Village, Ruisui Township, Hualien County, is elegant.
The surrounding areas contain all kinds of plants. It is a must-visit destination for the tourists who visit Ruisui.
A white, sundial-shaped marker can be found in the Tropic of Cancer Marker Park. Around the marker, you can see four representative animals in traditional Chinese constellations: The Azure Dragon of the East, the White Tiger of the West, the Vermilion Bird of the South, and the Black Turtle of the North. They are called the “Four Symbols.” Each symbol contains seven constellations, representing the astronomical changes during the four seasons. Also, in the wooden hallway on the two sides of the park, there are explanation boards about astronomy, climate, solar terms, geoscience, etc., which render the Tropic of Cancer Marker Park as an educational recreation spot.
