This area’s wider, open landscape is not commonly seen along the road in the Hehuan Mountain area. To the east of Xiaofengkou is Liwu River, and to the west is Hehuan River (upstream of Dajia River). Air currents from the east and west follow these rivers, often bringing strong winds through Xiaofengkou, hence its name, which means a “small wind gap.”Xiaofengkou Tourist Center is a unique European-style building that offers multimedia tours and a place for tourists to take a break from their journey. It’s conveniently located next to the Hehuan North Peak’s trail entrance, and visitors can also head to Qilai Mountains at dawn to watch a gorgeous sunrise above a sea of clouds.Xiaofengkou’s meadows are another unique attraction, filled with Yushan canes that reach up to the knee, rivaling the beauty of America’s great plains.

There is also an observation deck here, from which visitors can admire Qilai North Peak, Panshi Mountain, and Liwu Mountain.Xinbaiyang’s name follows a Truku warrior called “Bayang.” He was strong, brave, kind, and respected by all. After he passed away, the Truku tribe named their community “Xikebayang” in his memory, and it later evolved into “Kebayang” and later today’s “Xinbaiyang.”Because of Xinbaiyang’s unique terrain, the area is often foggy and home to circling clouds. Many visitors stop here to observe this beautiful sea of clouds; the spot is designated as a popular rest stop along the Central Cross-Island Highway.
