Bilian Temple used to be “Fengtian Shrine.” It is a 100-year-old temple. Though the original shrine was replaced with a Chinese-style temple, you can still see “Torii (Japanese gate),” “pilgrimage route,” “stone lantern” and “Komainu (lion dog statue)” in front of the temple. The remnants of the shrine tell the story of the relationships between old and new cultures.At the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Minquan Street in Fengli Village, you can find a torii written with “Bilian Temple,” which is 10 m tall and 6 m wide. This is the only torii left among the three torii of the former “Fengtian Shinto Shrine.” If you walk from this torii along the pilgrimage route for about 1 km to the end of Minquan Street, you will see the “Bilian Temple.”The main building of the former “Fengtian Shinto Shrine” no longer exists; however, the Japanese-style stone lanterns on the two sides of the visiting path at the entrance and the Komainu (lion dog) at the two sides of the gate, which were inscribed with the names of Japanese worshippers on the foundation, still carry the long-standing history and serve as important spiritual sustenance for people.
