One of the better-known places is Bilu Sacred Tree, which includes a quaint rest area with a parking lot, small cafe, trail, pavilion, and more. The Bilu Sacred Tree is a cunninghamia konishii over 3,000 years old, about 50 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide; it is the giant sacred tree along the Central Cross-Island Highway.The Bilu Sacred Tree is still full of life and even hosts lichen (fungal-algal symbios) that trail their whiskers over its branches despite its old age. This area is located 2,000 meters above sea level, right where cold and temperate needle-broadleaf forests mix, so it is essential for the observation of its unique ecosystem as well.
