The Tzu Chi Cultural Park is located on Central Road in Hualien City and includes the Tzu Chi Medical Center, Jing Si Hall, Jing Si Books, and the Tzu Chi University campus, which is the hub of Tzu Chi’s global affiliates. In 1986, Master Cheng Yen, the founder of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Association, established the Tzu Chi Medical Center and started the construction of the Jing Si Hall.
In 1994, Tzu Chi College of Medicine was launched, and in 2000, it was renamed Tzu Chi University. The 13-story building is built on a 350,561-square-foot site using Hualien marble with solemn and serene grayish-white tone color, and the towering roofs were designed in the Tang-Dynasty style with the spirit of “soaring in the sky,” with 362 reliefs carved into the eaves to demonstrate Buddhist culture. Inside this grand architecture, there are numerous buildings operating with diverse functions, including a kindergarten, education promotion classroom, office, international conference hall, gratitude hall, sutra hall, and cultural artifacts exhibition gallery, etc. Various tea sessions, social welfare activities, social education, and early childhood education programs, and cultural artifacts exhibition are held frequently, and the peaceful and calm atmosphere is worth slowing down to experience them.
