Kuo Tzu-Chiu Music Culture Hall

Known as the “Father of Hualien Music”, Mr. Tzu-Chiu Kuo enriched the memories of many Hualien people with music. To preserve this important history for future generations, after careful refurbishment, the Japanese-styled wooden structure is transformed into a music culture hall displaying Kuo’s valuable manuscripts, musical instruments, and other documents. In the company of the Formosan cypress’ aroma, besides feeling the influence of culture and arts, visitors can also explore the tenacious vitality of this old building.

The Kuo Tzu-Chiu Music Culture Hall is divided into two halls. Hall 1 mainly displays Kuo’s manuscripts, tools for repairing musical instruments, correspondence, and documents. The piano used by Kuo is also there. On the wall, there is information about Kuo’s life and some old photos for visitors to get an idea of Kuo’s teaching style and lifestyle. Hall 2 is a performing space for concerts and performing activities and community interactions for visitors to explore the contents of the local musical culture to inspire their classical elegance.
