Xincheng Catholic ChurchIn 1956, Xincheng Church was built on top of what had initially been Xincheng’s Shinto shrine. The Church is shaped like Noah’s Ark to symbolize rebirth, its pebbled walls covered with creeping vines. There are two stained-glass windows in the pristine interior, a baptism pool, and a confession area.Xincheng Catholic ChurchXincheng Church is open to visitors, but please proceed quietly without disturbing those praying or in confession.Xincheng Catholic ChurchIn the Church’s front garden stands a monument engraved with “Monument for Sacrificed Officers and Soldier Remains,” memorializing the Japanese soldiers who died during the Xincheng Incident. In 1920, the monument was carved with names, although the words are now too weathered to read.
