There are three Tropic of Cancer markers in Taiwan, one in Chiayi Sui Township, another in Wuhe Terrace, and the third in Fengbin Township, standing at the 70.5-kilometer-point on Provincial Highway No. 11. The white marker embraces the beauty of the Coast Ranges and the Pacific Ocean, attracting visitors to take photos and linger there. The Tropic of Cancer Line is the latitude line that circles the earth at 23.5°N, representing the separation of the tropical and subtropical zones. The most obvious is that the main crops grown south of the Tropic of Cancer in Taiwan are tropical pineapples and sugar apple, while areas north of it are subtropical tea and rice. There is a narrow slot in the middle of the marker where sunlight shines right into it on the summer solstice at noon, so visitors can experience the spectacle of losing their own shadow under the sun!Therefore, besides taking photos, visitors can also read the explanatory board to learn about the wonders of the four seasons!
