Heren Beach is a two kilometers long beach in the north of Xiulin Township, Hualien County. Due to the short Liangli River near Heren and the steep slope of the upstream river bed, gravel was carried and quickly washed away to estuary which forms the gravel beach landscape seen today. The entrance of the Heren trail (closed in 2021 due to severe damage by typhoons) is next to the Heren Boundary Stele of the National Park and besides the Suhua Highway. This trail is about 165 meters. The beach can be reached after going down the trail and walking through a small section of grove. The first thing that catches the eye is the rocks on the beach. These rocks are originally rolled down the crag to the seaside. The gravel consists of marble and gneiss which was brought down by Heren River on the north side and followed the waves to the coast. The accumulated gravel eventually forms a large clean and smooth gravel beach over the years.
