Seaside Destinations
Baqi Gazebo is the most stunning “turning point” on Provincial Highway No.11. Driving down from downtown Hualien through this hairpin curve, the scenery changes from forest on both sides to the wide-open Pacific Ocean view with the Coastal Range standing overhead. The east-side view of this deck is a breathtaking marine blue of the Pacific Ocean that makes you forget how much effort you have put into the journey. Facing toward the south, you can overlook the charming Jiqi Bay, and the cool sea breeze is blowing like an invitation from dreamland. Despite facilities like pavilions, restrooms, information/service counters, there’s a shop in Baqi Rest Stop, where you can enjoy a variety of aboriginal handicrafts and sweets as well as desserts to refuel your energy and enrich your memory of the trip. Furthermore, there is a 100-meter-long trail at the lower part of the observation deck, and the trail ends at a shady grassy terrace, where visitors rest and listen to the chirping of birds and cicadas in the mountains.
