Built-in 1924, Matai’an Old House is the best-preserved traditional Amis wooden old house in Hualien County, and all of its pillars and beams originated from Maxi Mountain. Even today, the fragrance of Hinoki still emanates from the wood, while the traditional architecture and ancestral wisdom of the Amis people can be seen embodied in the interior décor. Moreover, profound indigenous influence is evident in the exquisite carvings.
