Shoufeng Township

  • PostDate:2021-11-26

Shoufeng Township MapShoufeng Township was known as Shouyi Farm during the Japanese occupation period; since it is located at the end of the Liyu Mountain, it is also called Liyuwei. Due to its low-lying terrain, the area is plagued by mosquitoes and insects, hence it was renamed Shoufeng in the hope of introducing propitiousness to the township and praying for prosperity. In ancient times, Shoufeng was only known as the gathering place for the Amis people, hence its history cannot be verified. After the Japanese surrendered and Taiwan’s Recovery, it was renamed Shoufeng Township, where two villages including Mizhan, Yanliao, and Shuhu were established. In 1950, the government implemented local self-governance, returning the power of the government to the people and allowing the township citizens to engage in self-management. The people voted to elect a township mayor and people’s representatives to promote the development of township infrastructure; the administrative system is still in effect today.
