Connecting Mountains, Sea, Land, and Life through Sustainable Light Dining|Cuisine of Mountains & Ocean
Cuisine of Mountains & Ocean (was founded in June 2023 by "Boss Fish" and his wife. The name "13 Sea ", chosen because both of their birthdays fall on the 13th, symbolizes the fusion of Hualien's mountains and ocean, offering customers the chance to taste the flavors of both while promoting sustainability. Since opening, the restaurant has gained strong local support.
One of the restaurant's unique features is its "Food Storytelling." Before and after meals, the staff introduces the ingredients of the day and shares the stories behind each dish, helping customers better understand the history and significance of what they are eating. Nearly all of the ingredients used in the restaurant are locally sourced from Hualien, such as the greenhouse-raised Lotus Pork’s HHP Pork from Yuli and fresh fish personally selected every week. The focus on these ingredients ensures that each dish presents the purest flavors. The restaurant specializes in whole foods, with signature dishes like the "Migrating Fresh Fish Mountain and Ocean Bowl," where fish from the East Coast's fishery farms is quickly grilled to preserve its natural freshness. The types of fish change with the seasons. Another highlight is the Portuguese-inspired dessert, the "Serradura Cake." The owner’s wife has adapted the traditional recipe by adding soybean residue, rice bran, and brown sugar to create a unique and healthier flavor.

Located near National Dong Hwa University, Cai Mi Jia embraces local ingredients and carbon reduction as its core principles. Its decor aligns with its name, creating a warm, home-like atmosphere. The word “迦” in the name symbolizes the fertility of Canaan, reflecting aspirations for a fulfilling life. The restaurant is also home to two adorable cats: an orange tabby named Cai Cai(or “Money Money”), representing wealth, and a black cat called Liang Jing Jing(or “Sparkling”), symbolizing radiance and brilliance. These feline companions add a cozy and welcoming touch to the space.
Sisters Yen-chun Tsai and Yu-hui Tsai manage Cai Mi Jia, crafting a variety of desserts with fruits from their family farm. Among the most popular items is the Seasonal Fruit Waffle, made with house-blended waffle mix and fresh seasonal fruits. Its light sweetness and refreshing taste have won over many guests. In addition to desserts, their simple yet flavorful dishes are equally impressive and healthy.
