Eating is an experience best savored slowly. Dining in a restaurant repurposed from an old building, where local organic ingredients are served with tea and coffee, brings comfort and joy to the table.

Hakka Flavor Passed Through Three GenerationsFangShuh

Named after its founder, Fang Shu Li, and now led by third-generation Chia Chun Li, FangShuh has been carefully renovated while preserving the charm of the original Japanese building. This is blended with Hakka cultural design and centered around a magnificent camphor tree over 200 years old - a silent witness to FangShuh’s three-decade story.

The restaurant’s foundation lies in three generations of Hakka culinary traditions. They insist on using family-recipe sauces and organic Hualien-sourced ingredients. One signature is “Lai Chun Pork Knuckle,” named in honor of their grandmother and made using her techniques - it offers a rich, lingering taste. Recently, they’ve added specialty pour-over coffee infused with Hakka leicha, creating a harmonious blend of traditional flavors and innovation - ideal for sipping slowly and appreciating the slow-life appeal of Fenglin.

A Century Old Home RenewedKamimoto

Ten years ago, owner Chu settled in Fenglin and, driven by a love for plants, recently leased and lovingly restored a century-old Japanese immigrant farmhouse with his wife Chia Yu. The café opened in early 2021. The shop focuses on small and miniature potted plants, offering DIY workshops such as succulent arrangements and miniature plant creations. Moving forward, it will continue to center around the space itself - cultivating a slow-living lifestyle, plant aesthetics, and sharing of local culture.

Surrounded by greenery both inside and out, Kamimoto adheres to principles of freshness and small-batch culinary perfection. He creates dishes using local Hualien organic produce. Their standout is the karaage-style chicken, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with an irresistible savory flavor that leaves a lasting impression.
