Running between Hualien and Chishang, Taitung, this train invites travelers to experience the breathtaking beauty of the East Rift Valley.

TRA’s Aesthetic Tourism Train|Shanlan Sets Off on Its Journey
Following the overwhelming popularity of Haifeng launched in 2024—where tickets quickly became a rarity— the all-new Shanlan train is set to commence operations soon. Running through the East Rift Valley, it grants travelers an unparalleled view of Hualien’s endlessly captivating mountain scenery. Named after the misty landscapes between Taiwan’s mountains and plains, Shanlan features a refreshing yellow-green color scheme, spacious interiors, and comfortable seating. Every passenger enjoys a panoramic view of Hualien's flowing mountain vistas through large windows. The train also serves exquisite meals crafted with local ingredients, including taro from Jian and wild greens with Indigenous flavors, ensuring a journey that is both a feast for the taste buds and a celebration of Hualien’s natural bounty.
Leisurely Exploring Small Towns|Stopping at Various Scenic Stations
Similar to Haifeng, the Shanlan train is designed for an immersive travel experience, allowing passengers to disembark and explore along the way. Traveling between Hualien and Chishang, Taitung, Shanlan makes carefully selected stops that promise unique surprises. On the outbound journey, it stops at Shoufeng and Yuli, where passengers can take part in a town walk curated by The Town Studio in Yuli. This experience offers an intimate look into Yuli’s rich local culture, allowing travelers to savor the authentic charm of the town.
On the return journey to Hualien, Shanlan stops in Fenglin, a town internationally recognized as a Cittaslow Town. Fenglin, a traditional Hakka settlement, has long been renowned for its academic excellence, boasting the highest density of school principals in Taiwan—earning it the title “Hometown of Principals.” Here, visitors can explore Taiwan’s best-preserved tobacco barn settlements or indulge in local delicacies like the famous leek stinky tofu, perfectly paired with the refreshing Minghsin lemon juice. Before reboarding, don’t forget to pick up Fenglin’s Three Treasures— peanuts, soy milk, and peeled chili peppers—as delightful souvenirs to remember this unforgettable journey long after the mist has cleared.
